Del Toro will be releasing its latest artist series in collaboration with Eduardo Sarabia, for Art Basel 2016. This capsule will include 10 limited edition styles with a variety of silhouettes emulating the artwork as embroideries on the uppers and laser engraving technique on the soles. Del Toro’s Wynwood Boutique will also display 195 hand painted plates by Sarabia that highlight Mexican motifs highlighting Del Toro X Eduardo Sarabia Capsule Collection. This capsule was integrated into the Del Toro FW16 Oaxaca collection, highlighting the rich cultural and craftsmanship of the Southwestern Mexican state.
“Eduardo and I have gotten close since I started collecting his unique work a couple of years ago. Eduardo’s work spoke to me immediately, it was reminiscent of the Amalfi ceramics but rendered through a Mexican vantage point. It was seamless to integrate him in our Oaxaca CABALLERO collection. Eduardo modernizes the traditional ceramic format by bringing satire to the ubiquitous Drug Cartel presence in modern Mexican culture. I choose to translate his work through Del Toro by focusing on the ceramic color palette of white and cobalt while using laser engraving on the soles and embroideries on the uppers. I think his work is amazing among other reasons because its old world meets new world, it is traditional ceramics with modern subject matter. We share that in Del Toro we are proud to modernize classics through our styling of traditional silhouettes with innovative subject matter “said Matthew Chevallard, Creative Director and President of Del Toro Shoes.
“The collaboration was a great opportunity to mix Italian craftsmanship with my designs, inspired by traditional Mexican motifs. It’s exciting to reach a new audience. It’s interesting to have my drawing interact daily in an unexpected way, like how its in this collaboration with Del Toro” said Eduardo Sarabia.
