This year’s New York Fashion Week saw two Italian heavyweights come together to collaborate on a limited edition sneaker collection. Del Toro teamed up with Superga to create 4 styles that offered a fresh take on the latter’s classic silhouettes.
Del Toro’s Matthew Chevallard unveiled the collaboration to a full house at the brand’s NYC Boutique in Soho.
Chevallard told WWD that the “whole concept was to premium-ize the Superga line and create some masculinity in it. So that’s why they came to us, to apply our DNA to the project. We put our red tab, our trademark, on them. It’s exciting, it’s cool.”
The collaboration saw Superga’s classic low and mid-cut silhouettes reworked with luxe materials. Premium suede was chosen for the two low top models, while the mid-cuts received an upper constructed from genuine ostrich leather. Each style is topped off with red leather heel tabs and gold eyelets for the signature Del Toro spin.
Of the collaboration, Chevallard went on to explain that “The common ground is really Italy. They’re also from Torino, which is where I was born. The Superga owners are longtime family friends — they actually introduced me to my factory in Italy. So it’s kind of a full-circle moment, six years and some change later.”
Featured at the packed release party were DJ Brendan Fallis and refreshments provided by Casamigos Tequila. The Del Toro x Superga Collaboration is available now in limited quantities at Del Toro’s Boutiques in Miami and New York City as well as online on the Del Toro and Superga websites.
